    Surging Empty Surging

Post by Running With Scissors Wed May 28, 2008 3:09 pm

You look to your left. It comes down to you and him. He has thrown every thing at you. Surging every chance he gets to try to break you, but you know this situation all to well he'll surge ahead only to fall back to you. You know better you know the steady pace will win in the end. While he is wasting valuable energy you wait until the perfect time to strike.

    --------
I have trouble letting go of the guy surging and end up falling back with him. Even though in the long run I know I would do better letting that person go.

How many times have you been in this situation?
    What do you do?

Lol I used to think they would slow down but, Usually with me they don't come back so I surge with them and stay about 10 meters behind and hope the get tired. which they usually don't.

Maybe he does those in the races that he can easily win and he just hangs with the guy until near the end.

Unless I know for certain that I'm in better shape than the person throwing the surges(and therefore know that I will catch them in the end by going steady), I go with them and follow their surges.

I just try to keep them within kicking distance, so if (when) they do die, they're well within a 5-10 second range.

I only surge in track, when I can box someone in and shorten their stride. Or in xc, if I'm caught behind someone who's messing up my footwork.

who the hell have you raced?

people who dont know how to race. there are a lot of faster people around here, but in track, none are real runners. usually @ most meets i get 2nd or 3rd in everything and everyone else behind me, either started out to fast, or just cant race.
