that's just crazy. i think people should let kids be kids and just have fun. when they're bodies have had time to develop, then they can start training more. i mean, there are exceptions, but most people would burn out running like that.

i dont think kids that young should run i read in an article that your bones arent fully devolped until i forgot what age but they are doing more damage to their bodies than they are helping them...if parents want their kids to get a head start on getting in shape to play sports in high school that arent offered in elementary (ie xc and track and probally a few others i cant think of right now) they need to be doing swim team

    just my opinion

    lets seee....
    If i run 1:04 for 8 miles. Thats 2:08 for 16. 3:12 for 24 add another 15 mins for the other 2 thats putting me at 3:27 + a 400, 1:45 = 3:28.45 which is her time.

so we would be close and i would probably tire out and get slower as it goes anyway.
    '

rofl, nobody can run a marathon at 8 mile pace. even if you trained for the marathon, it would be at least 30-45 seconds per mile slower.

Did Geb burn out? According to The Guinness Book of World Records, I don't think he did.

That seems to be everyones answer to kids running fast times at young ages. These kids are obviously crazy-talented, and can obviously take more stress on the body than an average person.
The truth is there's no way to know if they'll burn out. We'll just have to wait.
a boy running 10k evry morning and a girl running 40k every morning are 2 different things.

I was reading the complete book of running, and there is a chapter on this. As long as kids work up to the mileage the same way we do, it is healthy for them to do whatever distance they please.

Notice it's all the Asian kids who are doing insane mileage due to their small frames. But they will definetly burn out or get some type of injury.

the impact of running is several times one's body weight on a single leg. it's comparable to squatting with a barbell 5
times your weight while standing on one leg(the impact force, that is). this could damage the growth plates and stunt growth. but it would take a good amount of running, like an hour a day or so.

The impact in a middle distance race supposedly can be up to 7 times your body weight, on a single leg.
