Here is how the game works. Someone poses a question that is morally or ethically challenging, and the next person answers it. Then that person posts a new question. We get to know a bit about each others values, etc. The questions don't need to make physical sense, they just need to be ambiguous as far as morals go, or challenging of someones ethics.

    So, I'll start.

You gain access to an atm machine which allows you to withdraw up to $250,000 dollars per day from an account with infinite resources. The only issue, is that each time you make a withdrawl, someone who you do not know, nor will ever come into contact with, hear of, or in any way be connected to, dies. Maybe they slip on the steps and break their neck, or drown while swimming, the only thing that is certain, is that they would be alive the next morning had you not withdrawn the money. Would you withdraw from the atm machine? How many times?

If it was a matter of life or death for me/my family, I would withdraw money once (like if we were all living on the streets, about to die from frostbite or something like that). In any situation otherwise, I would not withdraw any money. I would not have the heart to go through with it, and I know I would regret it if I let someone die only for my pleasure.

You have recently found out that a friend of yours is being beaten at home. They beg you not to tell anyone, but you know something needs to be done about this. What do you do?

This thread is by far the best game on the forum, let's just keep it at that and not make it an argument. Wink

If I knew a friend was being beaten at home, I'd tell whoever needed to be told anonymously.

You're married, have no kids yet, and have a baby on the way, yet your spouse wants an abortion, what do you do?

tell my hubby that he shouldn't have done it if he didn't want a baby!... divorce him if it comes to that... I wouldn't want to spend the rest of my life with someone who couldn't take responsiblity for his actions.... (but I wouldn't have married him in the first place!)

So, I don't really have a good situation for this... but you're best friend is in some life or death situation, and you can save them... but it will result in your becoming paralyzed from the waist down. (so no more running and you will be in a wheel chair the rest of your life) So, do you save your friend and become paralyzed? or not...

Nah, I can live with the guilt more easily than I can live with being a cripple.

You get drafted by the military to engage in a major world conflict as an infantryman (or woman). You live near the border of the nearby country, which has a comparable quality of life, and over which you could easily escape. You know you will be exempt from legal recourse if you flee across the border. Do you abandon your country's call to arms and go to the neighboring country, or do you fulfill your obligation to your native country's army?

That would really depend on the context of the conflict. If it was a legitamate offensive war, or a defensive war of any nature, I'd suck it up and join. Dolce et Decorum est pro patri mori.

This one really only applies for the ladies, but if a dude answers it, try to put yourself in a woman's shoes. You become pregnant, and everything goes well until you're 8 months pregnant. During a regular check up, the doctor tells you that something has gone wrong. If you go through with the pregnancy, the baby will die. They can do an emergency C-section and save the baby, but it would kill you in the process. Would you choose to save your own life, or your baby's?

wow, that's really hard... I would have to consult with the husband/ other family members... because they would have to have a say in it. I'm inclined to say I would choose to live... that's partly because I'm selfish and love being alive... and partly because I know that it would be really tough on the kid to not have a mother. Life is really tough on families with only one parent.

If there was a pill you could take that would make you a successful elite athlete without showing up in any drug tests, would you take it?

No. I could never be proud of my accomplishements because I would know that I cheated.

Umm I'm bad at thinking of questions, but here it goes:
You are walking down the street with your family and some crazy guy starts shooting at you. He ends up shooting one of your family members, and then the cops shoot him. Later, you are at the hospital and it is uncertain whether both your family member and the shooter will live or die. You walk by the shooter's room and suddenly see him start to die. There are no doctors around. Would you run and get him one or would you just walk away and let the man who shot at your family die?

You messed that question up, but I'd go get him one. IDK why.

OK. So you work at a railroad track thing, and it's your job to turn a lever when the passenger train is coming to turn the tracks so that the train wont fly off an unfinished part of the railroad into the river. The lever is is about 100 meters from the tracks. One day you're walking to move some wood on the tracks, when suddenly you hear your young son call to you. You look up and he's standing on the tracks. The next moment you hear a passenger train coming. You're halfway between the lever and the tracks. You can either rush over and save your son, and let the train crash into the water, killing everyone on board. Or you can rush back to the lever to save everyone on the train, but let your son be crushed by the train.

    Which is it?

I know this sounds awful, but I could never just watch my kid be hit by a train. It would probably haunt me for the rest of my life, but I' have to do it.

If someone close to you was dying of cancer, and the only way to save him/her was to give an internal organ with a 75% chance you would survive, would you do it?

If it was my mom dad or brothers yes. Anyone else no.

You are on a airplane ride back from your brothers wedding when the something went wrong and the plane was falling out of the sky. Everyone grabs a parachute but for some reason there isn't enough. Everyone took a parchute and are out of the plane besides you and a pregnant lady who has the last parchute in her hands and is putting it on. Do you crash and die or steal the pregnant ladies parchute and save yourself and doom the lady and her child to a certain death?

I would probably try to hang on to somebody, I wouldn't beat up a pregnant lady (or any one for that matter) to get a parachute, even in a life or death situation.

You are out at a bar one night when you see one of your coworker's/classmate's significant other obviously in a romantic situation with a stranger. They see you, and come over and tell you it wasn't what it looked like. Do you listen to their clearly BS story, and later, do you tell your acquaintance? (they are specifically not your friend, just someone you are ambivalent towards)

your best friend and you have pretty close grades in school, and you have all A's, top in the class. your friend starts slacking and copies on tests and homework assignments off another smart person and gets the highest grades and is gonna be valedictorian because of cheating even though if she didn't cheat you would be valedictorian, Do you tell, or let them have it?

hmmm. I think I might write an anonymous letter to a teacher or something... but only if I could prove that they had been cheating...but I would try just talking to the friend about it first to try to convince them that it was a bad idea... and if they didn't listen, they definately wouldn't be my friend anymore!! ...but yeah, I think I would probably tell... but I definately wouldn't want anyone to know that it was me who told.

Ok, here's a classic... your house is burning down and your mother and brother are stuck inside... but you are safe. You can save only one of them...and by choosing to help one of them, there is a 50% chance that you yourself could die. So, do you save one of them, if so, who? or do you just do nothing because you don't want to risk your own life?

I just run over to the nearest house and call the fire department, I would not endanger my life simply to have a shot at saving a family member.

One of your closest male friends is engaged to be married. One night, after a party, their fiance, visibly drunk, comes up to you and tearfully informs you that your best friend has struck her, and she doesn't know if she is making the right decision marrying him. You confront your friend and he vehemently denies ever hitting her, but you suspect he may be lieing. The next day, your friends fiance calls you (you being the only one in which she has confided) and asks you what you think she should do. Do you tell her to go through with the marriage, or leave your best friend?
