Moving a Race Up Empty Moving a Race Up

Post by whenhen Mon Nov 10, 2008 10:41 pm

So today my marathon coach sends me an email saying that the Los Angeles Marathon has been moved up to May 25 from February 16 of this year. This is a difference of 3 months for a race that typically gets about 30,000 people who expect that the day they registered for is the day of the marathon. The real reason I'm pissed though is that my team is doing a 14 mile run on Saturday, and our training schedule was based around the date of the race being 3 months earlier. Can you imagine doing summer training for xc only to find out that the season will be starting in December, and you have to maintain the same amount of training for that period of time? Oh and by the way switching marathons is not an option since the program I'm in won't fund us if we don't do the LA Marathon.
Update: Looks like it's official now, despite the mammoth amounts of complaints from locals and people that bought an airplane ticket and don't want to pay $300 to change the date of their flight. Mad

The race switched owners, and they think it won't piss anyone off.
"In an effort to create a world-class runner experience, we've moved the 2009 Los Angeles Marathon to Memorial Day, Monday, May 25th. If you've registered for the 2009 race and can make the new date, you don't need to do a thing--your registration will be rolled-over automatically. If you've registered for the 2009 race and can't make the new date, please contact us at info@lamarathon.com and we'll process a refund. " from the email the la marathon sent us.

yeah, so you have more time to train. Isn't that a good thing? I would be frustrated but It would still be nice, but you live in Cali..is it really hot in May? February would be cold but that beats heat.

Actually the initial date was March 1, 2009. Then they decided in October they wanted it to be on a holiday, so they changed the date to February 16. And now it's May 25, 2008. headbang2

How about you sign up for another marathon in January/ February so you can still get the training and then also do the L.A. Marathon.

Stupid race director. I would just drop the mileage you are doing now and then build back up.

you can't keep the same long mileage going for that long it will end up doing more harm than good running at the same slow pace the whole time just cut it and go back to normal training then build back up
