So most of our seasons end soon now. Everybody seems to have intentions of training during the winter in some form or another. So here's a thread where everyone can ask their questions instead of a billion different ones.

    Mine:
    Peaked at 40 over summer.
    Doing 3200/Mile
    16 weeks to train.

1)How high in mileage should I go?
2)How many times a week should I swim.

When you were at 40 do you feel like you could carry a bigger load? I don't think you need to go much over 50 because it's track and you might get stuck doing the 4x800 as well as the 1600/3200.
I would join the swim team. It the best cross training I can think of for running and it's almost impossible to get injuried (swimmer's shoulder is the only thing I can think of).

    75% chance of indoor
25% chance of skipping indoor and building a base peaking at 70 mpw in 15 weeks.

Obviously I would only choose one option.

I would really like to skip indoor and do the base, as I need some time away from competition. However, I feel as though no one will understand. I'm also not going to do it unless I get a small group together, otherwise I'll only end up running half the days once it starts snowing.

if you just want to get away from competition from the mental point of view, then skip it. if you're worried about peaking, mileage, or those kinds of things, then you're an idiot.

So if I skipped indoor without feeling the need to get away from competition I'd be an idiot?

I think I'll do indoor anyway, I have no idea how I'd say no to my coach and teammates, even if it feels like the right thing to do.

yes. indoor won't make you peak and you can keep a good amount of mileage up. plus, you have a beasty team that knows how to get it done. follow them.

Triathlon training is just getting started. I'm currently in the Prep phase, which hasn't exactly gone as planned, but that's why there's Prep AND Base.

I'll be swimming 4-5 times a week, running 6-7 times a week (sometimes 2x daily), and biking 4-6 times, based on the other two disciplines. I feel like swimming is my weakest leg and running is my strongest, so I want to train accordingly. You can't win a tri with a stellar swim, but you can with a stellar run.

I just got done making my race schedule for the season, which includes 5 out of town races (Indiana, Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois, and Colorado). I'm totally pumped!

Anyways, my coach (xc assistant, track head coach) won't allow anybody on the track team to run half-marathons. BUT, I need to get a couple in to get ready for my half-Ironman. He understands my level of training and dedication to triathlon, but I don't know what to say to him about it, because I'm doing a half-marathon.

Not that anyone on this site cares about triathlon...

P2, if I were you, I would skip indoor and do base.

My plans are getting to 50mpw for a few weeks, which will be the most I've ever done. Plus some road races.

Either doing indoor or just building a base

I really want to just build a base but I think my mom is going to make me do indoor Neutral
So hopefully I'll just be able to get the mileage up anyway while doing indoor. (I want to be around 50mpw)

I'm building a base until indoor starts (January 1st) We don't have outdoor in the CIS, so this is the only track I can do.

Personally, P2, I'd skip indoor most likely. Peaking 3x per year is brutal on the body, and base is better for long-term development.
