Re: nerves
I use to get nervous but now I just tell myself that I'm better than them so why worry about it and then I just cruise to victory unless its a invite then I choke and suck balls.
I really don't know how to tell you to lose the nerves its just something that comes through experience and knowing you'll do fine.

Re: nerves
Last weekend, I threw up at a race because I was so nervous. The best advice I can give you would be to only eat easily digestable food before you run.
I wish I could give you some better advidce, but idk anything.

Re: nerves
The day you aren't nervous (or at least anxious) for a big race is the day you don't need to race any more.
I'm always less nervous after a false start. Last XC season I only PR'd after false starts. 'Twas weird.

Re: nerves
just tell yourself that worrying about it won't make you run faster. tell yourself that it's all about moving your legs fast. last year i got nervous all the time.

Re: nerves
maybe you could also try relaxing and getting away from people for a bit myabe sit down, picture how you want your race to go and the difficulties you may face, then possibly listen to some music.
im kinda pathetic with my nerves. the other day in english class we were doing a daily writing and I decided to write about my first meet the next day and i started to shake from my nerves and couldn't write anymore bceause my hand writing wasn't readable. i usually tell myself its just a race and not to be worried because im an okay runner and i should be running for fun and what ever happens, just kinda happens. all you can do is try your best.

that happens to me alot, I start thinking about track or xc races and I start getting shaky, anxious and nervous..I hate it.
I agree with runnergirl, visualize your race and picture how it will go, like the start or hills and your finish.

Re: nerves
Just learn some simple relaxation techniques. We've started doing it during workouts, and it seems to help. Laughter also helps a lot. Another thing our coaches are stressing.

Re: nerves
I get nervous before some meets. I try not to, but it's just hard sometimes. listening to music helps me a little. I just try to stay relaxed..think of positive things. & don't think about how other people on your team are going to do. just think of it as your race. it should get easier for you as time goes on.
