How much heavier would you be without running this summer?

Post by ButterySmoothStride on Tue Sep 02, 2008 12:36 pm

    Since I ran 750 miles this summer, 750(100)= 75,000 calories. 75,000/3,500(calories in a pound of fat) = 21

Had I not run this summer and kept the same diet, I would be 21 pounds heavier Shocked

    14 pounds.

Had I not run this summer, I might have been a healthy weight.

I'm generally 3 pounds heavier before I run, but I haven't lost much weight since running

    Since I ran 300 miles this summer, 300(100)= 30,000 calories. 30,000/3,500(calories in a pound of fat) = 9

Same because I would have done swimming, or some other sport this summer if I didn't run. Plus I would eat less.

Also it's not like you don't burn calories when you aren't running.

not sure, plus i think you only burn about 80 calories a mile if you weigh under 200 lbs.

that doesn't really work because it's relative to the person and their previous fitness. and you can't really compare calories to fat and say you would be that much heavier because they are different measurements all together.

Probably none...I don't put on/lose weight really unless I grow, lol..I probably could have ate more than I did and ran and not/barely put on weight and I eat like a fricking cow, too.

I'm with SourWorms. You can still gain/lose a lot of weight without it being all pound per 3500 calories. I know if i have a huge day of eating that is say 3000 calories more than normal i will gain more than a pound and keep it on even though it shouldn't be that much. Just because its not fat doesn't mean its not weight

Okay, obviously I wouldn't actually have gained 21 pounds this summer without running....it's just a way to
look at my mileage and say "wow, I used as much energy running as it takes to burn 21 pounds of fat." in reality
I don't even have 21 pounds of fat on my body, maybe 5-10

    I definitely would be heavier.

Not just because I didn't run, but because I would have been eating more (not running=depression and boredom, which triggers something in my brain that screams, "HEY! How about some donuts?").

In all seriousness though, running keeps me so much happier. The health benefits are mostly secondary (though very much welcome).

If someone who's really skinny starts running, they will probably gain weight because of the built muscle. Remember that muscle weighs more than fat.
